No commentsPoor Stroop performances in 15-year-old dyslexic teenagers.
Authors: Kapoula Z, Lê TT, Bonnet A, Bourtoire P, Demule E, Fauvel C, Quilicci C, Yang Q
The Stroop test enables interference between color naming and reading to be studied. Protopapas et al. (2007) reported more errors in an interference task and longer reaction times in 12.5-year-old dyslexics; also more Stroop interference with lower reading skills. The present study uses a version of the Stroop with four color cards and aims to test interference and flexibility in older dyslexic teenagers. The four cards are: color naming, reading, interference and flexibility. In the latter, subjects have to name the color of the word inhibiting reading except when the word is inside a box. This flexibility task enables the testing of the capacity for cognitive switching between tasks. The door opened and Chris was escorted in by one of the nurses.nbsp; He was wearing a bright blue jumpsuit over his clothes, and a face mask to prevent germs from entering the operating room.nbsp; My hands, which had been held by one of the nurses (because I asked her to hold my hand because I was scared, I’ll admit it), fluttered animatedly and reached for Chris. nbsp;quot; She’s on her way, quot; I said to him as he took his seat up by my shoulder.nbsp; He and I were both above the sterile field, listening to the sounds of the procedure as the anesthesiologist gave us the play-by-play as she peeked over the curtain towards my belly.quot;Your daughter is almost here.nbsp; Just a few more minutes now, quot; she reported.nbsp; I could hear her smiling underneath her mask, despite the…

(I’ve tried to write her birth story with more precision, but I’m a bit of a rambler, so this is a two part post.nbsp; Had to be.nbsp; I couldn’t edit myself down enough.) The evening before my c-section, I was a complete wreck.nbsp; I’d never had any kind of surgery before (except when I was four years old – I had accidentally stepped on a sewing needle and half of it broke off in my heel, so I was put under to have it removed.nbsp; Ew.).nbsp; I’d never even had an I.V.nbsp; You’d think that, after living with type 1 diabetes for over 23 years, that I’d have had my share of hospitalizations and needly bits, but I was relatively green when it came to anything other than insulin and pump sites. nbsp;So I was freaking about the surgery.nbsp; In addition to feeling really nervous abou…
